Cette compilation d'enregistrements marquants du Quatuor Amadeus a été publiée à l'occasion de la disparition de Norbert Brainin, le premier violon du légendaire ensemble, en 2005. Elle regroupe des oeuvres de Verdi, Tchaïkovsky, Dvorak et cet étonnant Quintette en fa majeur d'Anton Bruckner, sorte de symphonie écrite pour les quatre instruments. Ces deux CD racontent la saga d'un des plus célèbres quatuors de l'histoire de l'interprétation. Le Verdi figurait au programme de leur premier concert en 1947 (sous le nom de Quatuor Brainin) et plusieurs oeuvres permettent de nous faire entendre l'admirable voix de l'alto de Peter Schidlof, le premier du Quatuor à avoir quitté ce bas monde.
