Satoko Fujii Tokyo Trio - Moon On The Lake (2021)

Indefatigable pianist Satoko Fujii creates a trio with drummer Ittetsu Takemura and cellist/bassist Takashi Sugawa for five intuitive original compositions ranging from just under nine to over eighteen minutes. The mode here is moods, as there is an eerie atmosphere drums, cello and scattered piano on “Hansho” while Fujii lurks around the corner with her fingers with Sugawa’s dark shadows on “Keep Running”. Takemura flails and slashes on “Moon On The Lake” and strings from cello and piano team with cymbals and ominous pickings for “Wait For The Moon To Rise”. Charcoal impressions.
