This year (2022), the master Blomstedt, who is 95 years old and is listening to more and more fulfilling performances. These two with Dresden Staatskapelle are masterpieces that represent both, and are among the most outstanding masterpieces among many Bruckner recordings. First released as SACD by converting to high resolution using the ORT mastering system independently developed by Nippon Columbia. By restoring the band that was lost in the CD spec, the sound field and sound quality are vividly improved. The CD layer also uses the sound source of this remastering.
We have compiled two overwhelming masterpieces that remain in Bruckner's recording history, further enhancing the name of Blomstedt. Although it was in the early days of digital recording, the large-scale performance that made full use of the wide dynamic range at the time of recording is a truly supreme masterpiece that has been loved around the world as a representative performance of both of them since their first appearance. Just when No. 7 was recorded, it was a joint production between the former EMI label and Germany's Schallplatten, and it was right after the complete Bruckner's symphonies with Jochum had just finished (No. 5 was in February 1980, followed by No. No. 2 was recorded in March of the same year), and in that sense, it is very interesting that it was recorded at this time. Of course, the performance itself is different. First of all, I am amazed by the wonderfully embodied reverberations and dynamic contrasts. The fact that it is a clearer recording than the Kubelik board also has an advantage, and these two songs, along with the first No. 7, have great meaning. The 4th and 6th with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, which will be recorded later, and the complete work with LGO, which will be recorded later, are not inferior to them at all, and the evaluation that surpasses them in part is the Nippon Columbia orchestra at the time. It is obvious that there is also a recording that perfectly captures the charm of. It's a pity that the recording ended with two songs, but it can be said to be a historic recording.
With the latest ORT mastering this time, the spread between sound fields and the localization have been further improved, the indirect sounds are richer, and the tones of the instruments can be felt with a natural touch. It does not mean that the texture and presence of the instrument itself is diminished, but the overall sound is an extension of the conventional sound, but as a result, the balance is adjusted, which leads to a masterpiece recording. Blomstedt-like orthodox musically rich masterpieces and recordings have been revived with the latest. In addition, although it has been known as a sound source with good recording so far, the effect is remarkable even in the CD layer in this ORT mastering.
