Debussy's "Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun", followed by "The Rite of Spring" is reproduced as it is. In addition, Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings, a recording from the same period, is arranged. This coupling is rare, and although it is a work that premiered in the same Paris, and there is an element of movement against stillness, the intention of the production at the time is not clear, but it is a good contrast. (Alternatively, the gradual transition between the flute's first note "Cis" in "Faun" and the bassoon's first note "D" in "The Rite of Spring" is also interesting). However, the feature of this album is in the performance itself. It is interesting to see how the mild and strong Suitner suddenly shows a completely opposite aspect here. There may be, but the sincere performance and passion that confronted him head-on is a performance that I can fully sympathize with even now. In addition, one year after this recording, the concert hall board by Kano Boulez & French National Orchestra was recorded, and "Spring Festival" will be close-up at once. If you listen to and compare both, you will be surprised at the high quality of the Suitner board. The orchestra's level is rather higher in Staatskapelle Dresden, and it may be said that the Suitner board is more appropriate in terms of playing faithfully to the score. Of course, the accurate hit points on the Boulez board and the approach aiming for standardity, which escaped from "modern music", were epoch-making, so it can be said that the difference was not the competence of the conductor but the direction. Even so, there is no element that this Sweetner board is buried, and in this high-quality reprint, you can listen to more details, so you should be able to feel the true appearance of this performance that you have not been able to discover so far. Coupling Tchaikovsky is also an elaborate performance, and the sound quality brings back the luster of stringed instruments, which was one of the virtues of the orchestra at the time. All three songs were recorded by Strüben, and in that sense a wonderful record was left.
The original analog master tape used this time remained in good condition. Therefore, like the previous series, it is a sound source with high sound quality and high listening value. You can clearly hear the performance level and the tone of the instruments used at that time. Although this style has been inherited since then, we are doing a reissue in the belief that there is a need for an appropriate reprint in the sense of recording history.
