The album released by Tom-Tom Records is a product of Dés' Free Sounds Quartet and was recorded at two concerts at the Opus Jazz Club.
The brilliant saxophonist's composer partners also represent the highest category, as Miklós Lukács plays cymbals, Márton Fenyvesi plays guitar, and András Dés plays percussion alongside the bandleader who plays the soprano saxophone.
Seven of their joint compositions and collective improvisations can be heard on the disc, clearly showing that the four make music together as a fantastic unit. As the name of the band shows, the feeling of freedom appears as a main factor in the material. However, there is a danger of this, because if we "let go of the reins", then a group of people could develop that no one would want.
Well, the László Dés lived a perfectly balanced life with the means and opportunity of (musical) freedom. They did not fall into the sin of selfishness for a moment. The music constantly flows towards us, which we inhale like life-giving air. The events of their lives - whether they are significant events or "just" a case of a chance encounter - are told to us in such a way that we are already there in our mind's eye. We feel smells, we see colors, the music of the Free Sounds Quartet is so strong and suggestive.
As bandleader and living legend, László Dés shows exemplary humility and respect for his colleagues. This is teamwork, in which everyone is equal, important and indispensable. The artists are genuinely curious and open to each other's thoughts, and then they reflect, so that the spiritual dialogue starts.
I am simply in love with the "sound" of László Dés's soprano saxophone! It is characterized by primal strength and sensitivity, wildness and gentleness in a good sense. The whole world is in it!
