The band "Mississippi" was formed on the basis of the previously existing folk-rock trio Alison Gros in Adelaide (Australia), which included Graeham Goble, Russ Johnson and John Mower. The trio in 1970 released one seven-inch record "Naturally / Would You Really Have To Go?" on the independent label "Gamba". Then the guys moved to Melbourne and here they were lucky. They signed a contract with the record company "Fable Records", whose owner was Mr. Ron Tudor. And already in 1971 They release two minions - "If I Ask You/So Good" and "All The Days/Weaver Of Life". Then they made several recordings that are considered the brightest achievements of Australian rock. But this time they took refuge behind a collective pseudonym - Drummond. Why, I never found out. But one way or another, their song "Eagle Rock" (a cover version of one hit of the past years) took the first place in the charts and stayed at the top for 22 weeks! The dealers from Fable were so delighted with this success that they released three more singles on behalf of Drummond, inviting anonymous studio musicians (and our heroes were not attracted!).
• In early 1972, the guys from Alison Gros changed the name of the band to Mississippi. After that, they recorded an excellent debut LP, using session musicians such as Peter Jones (piano), Geoff Cox (drums), Barry Sullivan (bass guitar, from Chain) and Graham Lyall (flute) in the studio. It was released in September, just at the newly opened division of the company "Fable" called "Bootleg" (I already mentioned it above). This album was reissued on CD by the label "EMI" in 2001 under a different cover.
• Then, vocalist and bass guitarist Beeb Birtles (previously played in Zoot) was accepted into the band for use at concerts. But he turned out to be so good that he was entrusted with a solo guitar, and then additional permutations were made. As a result, Colin Deleuca (bass guitar, from Fugitives) and Derek Pellici (drums, from Ash) joined the band. This line-up released the minion "Mr. Moondog / All Through The Day". The author of the single is Russ Johnson. The producers of the publication are Peter Jones and Ern Rose.
• It is said that Goble kept a diary where he scrupulously kept records of all the concerts of the band and there is now data on 1,900-plus performances. On his official website, you can find a lot of interesting things about these concerts, up to video clips.
• The permutations in the group continued further. The musicians no longer recorded albums, but they still released singles. In April 1974, the band went on a tour of the UK, which turned out to be fatal for her. English journalists wrote very negatively about Mississippi concerts. The band began to break up, but then replenished with new musicians and was revived again in Australia in January 1975. And after a while (this is a completely different story) It was reorganized into The Little River Band...
