2. Scattered Light (04:06)
3. When The Days Grow Dark (07:06)
4. Groundswell (04:14)
5. What We Left Behind (04:08)
6. Remember How It Is To Float (04:35)
7. Ee Nob (03:06)
These tracks were composed to accompany my paintings of the same name. They all reflect the places, spaces, and landscapes of Kalamaja, Estonia. Field recordings used in this set were taken at the Lennusadam Seaplane Museum and the nearby Noblessner submarine region.
Established in 1374, Kalamaja is one of the oldest areas of Tallinn, Estonia. Nearly destroyed by the plague, the area was rebuilt but later completely burned during the Crimean War. During WWII, the Russian occupation forced Estonian residents out of the area, and it became a militarized zone – off-limits to anyone except Soviet military personnel. It is home to the notorious Patarei prison and submarine-building facilities. It is now a neighborhood filled with creative artists, cafes, and vibrant spaces for art and performance.
My heartfelt thanks to Dima Rappu, Simon Stockhausen, Alexandre de Charrin, Anne Jabaud, Staapli 3 Gallery, and the Lennusadam Seaplane Harbor Museum.
