Sukilove, a five-piece group from Antwerp, Belgium, is led by singer/songwriter Pascal Deweze. Deweze, who first gained American attention in 2001 as one half of the Belgian alt-country duo Chitlin' Fooks, along with Bettie Serveert singer Carol Van Dijk combine a heavily Gram Parsons-influenced take on American roots rock with an obvious fondness for the softer side of '60s pop. The rest of the band (guitarist Helder Deploige, keyboardist Pieter Van Buyten, bassist Guy Van Nueten, and drummer Stoffel Verlackt) hew closer to the latter side of that musical equation, giving Sukilove a less twangy and vaguely psychedelic sound. Their U.S. debut, Talking in the Dark, was released in April 2002 on Hidden Agenda Records. In 2004, Deweze hooked up with producer John Morand and released You Kill Me, an angular noise rock cacophony that retained much of the group's winsome melodiousness while beefing up their overall sound.
