Duo Improprium - Incontro (2023)

The CD was born from the meeting of Domenico Testaì (flute) and Maurizio Burzillà (accordion), musicians from different musical experiences, but linked by a ten-year friendship and the desire to experiment and try their hand at new spaces. "Meeting" because a combination of various genres, styles and timbres probably never heard together, which take shape from already existing stylistic elements and styles. The songs have recognizable constructions (tango, tarantella, fugue, samba, etc) but the basic structures are revised for an unusual duo (“Duo Improprium“) but delicate, with a fascinating and stimulating timbre. All songs are original except Luiza by Jobim. Tango for Cinzia has a tripartite structure, with an initial melodic tango, a virtuosic part with written improvisation and a very rhythmic final coda. The original Suite n.1 for flute, accordion, strings and percussion is a tribute to the composer Bolling, always divided into four well-drawn parts. Improperium is instead a Taranta that was originally created for flute and guitar: it is a piece that is divided into three parts, a tarantella with Mediterranean flavors at the beginning, a slow part in the middle, which then gives way again to the initial Taranta. Allegretto fugato was born as a study for two clarinets. A fugue in D minor, later repeated in E minor; the central part then has a funky development, always with fugue themes, and then concludes with a Milonga. Badambò (the title has an onomatopoeic sound) is a samba with an expository part, two written improvisations and a long coda that all develops final themes.
