Myst, like Jrpjej, consider themselves to be post-traditional Circassian music. At the same time, it is difficult to confuse them with other Ored Recordings artists.
In addition to traditional instruments like the shichepshin (Circassian violin), apapshin (lute), and kamil flute, Myst uses the European viola, cello, guitar, and even harp.
The set is the standard for the new wave of Circassian musicians: Jrpjej, Bashir Hatsuk, and Yewary adapted the cello before. For Bashir, this is even the main source of the sound. But although Myst has gained a similar arsenal, the result is quite different.
If you do not consider local electronic musicians, Myst rethought the native tradition most radically. The radicality here is not in an extremity or extreme aggressiveness. On the contrary, we have before us the most melodic post-traditional collective of the region.
Stylistically, their music is close to chamber neoclassical. But if the same Jrpjej or Bashir preserve the spirit and atmosphere of the original (for which archival recordings are taken), then Myst often disassembles the original mood of the song and reassembles everything. Thus, a tough heroic ballad about Kazbek Tuguzhuko, a hero of the war for the independence of Circassia from the Russian Empire, sounds like a lyrical calm song here, and in the lament of Abihan, married to an unloved one, the parts of the main vocal and choral sub-voice unexpectedly strangely combine.
