Hello Caller is the first of two releases on Frequency Domain this year from the hugely talented Amanda Mücha. Working with a single piano loop, a single vocal loop and a small number of ‘store cupboard’ ingredients, she set about exploring the samples to create a suite of compositions - incarnations from the same constrained set of sounds. "A bit like cauliflower done seven ways," she says.
"The title, Hello Caller, came to me the first day working on the tracks. The music brings to mind this idea of lost voices, of voice echoes in the ether. So much of modern life and technology is about communication. The space between us is pulsing with voices: mechanical voices, computer voices, voices imprinted in telephone wires. As I worked on the music I thought of voices from the past echoing on in space, of voices that never reach their destinations, of lost connections, of that yearning for connection."
Interpretations from Jo Johnson (her first ever remix), Datassette and Southfacing expand on the originals to make up one hour of music that folds space and time.
