EXTRAORDINARY 1980 BROADCAST PERFORMED IN OSAKA, JAPAN Released in June 1980, Jackson Browne’s sixth studio album, Hold On, remains his only release to date to reach number 1 on the US Billboard chart. Featuring the hit single ‘Boulevard’, and ‘Of Missing Persons’ written for Ianara George, daughter of the by-then-late Lowell George, the album was certified as a Gold and Platinum record in 1980 by the RIAA. It reached multi-platinum in 2001. The Hold Out Tour began in late June and featured more than 50 dates across the US and one in Canada, culminating at the Los Angeles sports arena on November 1st. The tour then moved to Japan, where Jackson and his band performed another ten shows between November 10th and 25th. Of these concerts, the group’s concert at the Festival Hall in Osaka. on the 13th of the month, was recorded for live FM broadcast and transmitted across the country. Still ranked as one of the finest gigs of the entire 1980 tour, and featuring a superb band with the mighty David Lindley on guitars, Craig Doerge on piano, Little Feat’s Bill Payne on Hammond B3 organ and synthesizers, Bob Glaub on bass and Russell Kunkel on drums – all of whom had played on the album too – this majestic concert has not previously been released. All this now changes as the entire show from November 13th 1980, over 40 years since the concert took place, is now available for the first time on this new 2CD set.
