Ensemble rosarum flores - Klösterlich Kurtzweyl. Die Mandora - Ein Instrumentenporträt (2023)

The mandora is the focus of this recording. This type of lute from the 18th century was very popular not least in the monastic context, as numerous recently discovered sources from Tyrol testify. The works that have been handed down on it sound on this CD almost exclusively as first recordings in more recent times and the mandora is brought into focus for the first time. Wolfgang Praxmarer, the initiator of this CD project, plays a replica of an original mandora by Michael Andreas Partl (Vienna 1747) from the Ferdinandeum collection. The copy comes from the workshop of the Tyrolean instrument maker Markus Kirchmayr. The ensemble Rosarum flores comprehensively presents the mandora as a solo instrument, in a chamber music context and as an accompanying instrument.
