Lyrically, there is certainly more poetic depth in the young lyrics of Paternoster and Beverly Jo Scott. Together they went on a spiritual adventure. You also track desire, everything written in the lockdown of a pandemic knows. Take the subdued, beautiful single 'Losing a Friend', the emotional hold on the loss of loved ones, or more broadly, the loss of ties. A Paternoster of subdued doubt, singing everything in its lowest register ever. Furthermore, they rock flirtatiously with euphoric substances in ' Alcohol 'or in single'Margarita'. Or musing in 'Coastline', a bit of the Scabs, energetically converted acoustic song, with the addition of synths.
The Blood Brothers thus continue to live up to their own Black Box revelation in the current music rat race. In 2023, they may be less free-spirited in making music, but the pleasure of playing unsophisticated straight forward, you hear, remains central, the energy of the rambunctious young dogs that they were when they started as underage teenagers. If they were then national champions performing with 220 performances a year, now they are responsible fathers and each parent of two kids. But their wild chest has remained. Young in spirit, they looked into a fresh mainstream guitar record, up-and-top up-tempo, full of clenched, catchy songs in as many variations of postcorona adrenaline.
Character singer Paternoster has even used his'The Voice' jury member finger for his own singing ability. There is variety in the vocal lines and often they are beautiful with their harmonies with the three of them in the rope. The live energy is good, thanks to producer Savours, and the new songs have also passed the test of fire in a mini-American tour from Seattle to San Diego.
In anticipation of the release of their latest, Black Box Revelation played 'my Hero' by the Foo Fighters a few days ago in the Antwerp Sportpaleis as Studio Brussel's impressive tribute to their late drummer Taylor Hawkins. The video of the company and those hundred (!) simultaneous drumming still goes around the world.
On May 1, Black Box Revelation will go Live at Rockpalast on WDR on antenne. All hands on deck, because there is enough wind in the sails.
The follow-ups of anthems like 'Rattle my Heart', 'my Perception', 'War Horse', 'Tattooed Smiles' and many others, you will find them generously on these 'Poetic Rivals'. The Rock ' n roll of the Black Box Revelation is alive and kicking and their concert agenda is full again. So, unless you have more to throw at the beer, pick up the air guitars again and go full speed ahead with it... 'Our Heroes'.
