Chronatic Quartet - Karneval der Tiere: Camille Saint-Saëns recomposed (2023)

To mark the centenary of Camille Saint-Säens' death, the Chronatic Quartet has taken the French master's most popular work and adapted his Carnival of the Animals for violin, piano, percussion and bass. This is not a true-to-the-note transcription of the »animal defile«, but a compositional interpretation of its own. When Saint-Saëns invited his guests – all of them famous colleagues from the past and present – to the masked ball, he gave everyone a characteristic costume: Paganini becomes a kangaroo, Jacques Offenbach finds himself with his Cancan in slow motion as a turtle, the virtuoso Frédéric Chopin mutated into a wild animal... there are also chickens, fish, a lion and the world-famous swan. The Chronatic Quartet pays homage to all these figures and their hosts and straightens out a few fossils with their individual interpretation.
