This 4CD set brings together eight of Yusef Lateef’s very finest albums as leader, all recorded for the Prestige and Impulse labels between 1958 and 1964 - the great man’s true glory years. Comprising both an ideal starting point for those new to this musical innovator’s art as well as fine reminder for those ready versed, this new collection will do nothing if not truly delight all those who choose to listen. • Born William Emanuel Huddleston on October 9, 1920, the man who would became the jazz multi-instrumentalist, composer, and bandleader, Yusef Lateef, grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee. His family moved, in 1923, to Lorain, Ohio, and again in 1925, to Detroit, Michigan, where his father changed the family's name to Evans.
