Gustav Leonhardt died in 2012 so the recording isn't 2023.
He didn't play the Viola da Gamba.
So the Viola da Gamba player is either Johannes Koch Recorded in 1961 or
Wieland Kuijken recorded 1975.

At his early years, Leonhardt ALSO played gamba. He even recorded some Brandemburg concertos with gamba, conducted by another pianeer, Josef Mertin, in which harnoncourt plays cello, Melkus plays violin and Leonhardt plays GAMBA.

Obviously, he does not play gamba in this recorded reissued by Fra Bernardo, but just wanted to make it clear that Leonhardt also played gamba in his early years on period instruments.

I stand corrected on Leonhardt's viola da gamba playing :-)
It's amazing that the record company doesn't name the viola da gamba player. It would seem to be Johannes Koch.

You're right! The recording is from 1961, Johannes Koch plays the cello and Gustav Leonhardt, obviously, the harpsichord...
The original LP was remastered and reissued on CD in 2005 by Deutsche Harmonia Mundi.
The cover that appears in this post is neither one nor the other.
