Steve Hackett - Cured In Cleveland (2019)

Stunning 2CD Set Featuring The Live FM Broadcast Recording From Steve Hackett s 1981 Tour Having gained prominence as the lead guitarist of Genesis between 1971 and 1977, for whom he contributed to six studio albums and three live albums, Steve Hackett left the band in October 1977 at the culmination of their Wind And Wuthering tour. Steve had made his first solo record in 1975, while still a member of the prog-rock maestros, and following his departure, produced three more albums between 1978 and 1981. For his fifth record, Cured, Hackett changed direction. It was recorded without the band with whom he had worked since 1979 (save for contributions from Nick Magnus and brother John Hackett) and features Steve handling all the lead vocals. Instead of using a drummer, he used an electronic Linn drum machine. Although it contained tracks in a progressive rock and classical style, for which he was by now well known, it also showcased a more pop-oriented approach. Released in August 1981, Cured peaked at No. 15 in the UK and No. 169 in the US. The album's tour marked a line-up change with John Hackett and Nick Magnus joined by Chas Cronk on bass and Ian Mosley on drums. On 20th October 1981, Hackett and entourage performed at Cleveland, Ohio s Agora Ballroom, where they put on a quite extraordinary show that was recorded for live FM radio broadcast across numerous US stations. Previously unreleased, the entire concert the group put on that mild autumn evening nearly forty years ago is featured here, on this 2CD set, for the first time.
