Dragon’s Domain Records presents THE PETER BERNSTEIN COLLECTION, VOLUME 1 , featuring music composed by Peter Bernstein for two projects from his filmography, MEGIDDO (THE OMEGA CODE 2) and ISLAND CITY.
Released in 2001, following the modestly successful Christian faith-based motion picture THE OMEGA CODE from 1999, MEGIDDO: THE OMEGA CODE 2 is a religious science-fiction apocalyptic adventure film directed by Brian Trenchard-Smith starring Michael York, Michael Biehn, R. Lee Ermey, Diana Venora, and Udo Kier. MEGIDDO is a quasi-prequel based on an alternate variation of the original film’s plot, a swath of Christian theology that focuses on the Book of Revelation that closes out the New Testament of the Christian Bible. This book forewarns the second coming of Jesus Christ through the violent destruction of the world known as the Great Tribulation.
The music was composed by Peter Bernstein, son of legendary composer Elmer Bernstein. When director Brian Trenchard-Smith was officially hired to helm the sequel , the filmmaker already had his composer in mind. Bernstein had previously worked with Trenchard-Smith on his two previous made-for-television movies, ATOMIC DOG and HAPPY FACE MURDERS and would eventually work together again on SIGHTINGS: HEARTLAND GHOST. Bernstein composed the entire score in about four weeks and is primarily electronic in nature utilizing sample technology that was cutting-edge for its time.
Broadcast only once on March 2, 1994, ISLAND CITY was a science-fiction backdoor television pilot starring Kevin Conroy, Brenda Strong, Eric McCormack, Peter Koch and Constance Marie. Set in a dystopian future, humanity develops a miraculous new drug that offers its addicts a kind of “fountain of youth.” One of the most severe side-effects of this drug is it mutates its users into disfigured quasi-humanoids with severe violent tendencies. Those few people who have developed an immunity to this side-effect band together to defend the walls of a fortified commune against the mutants outside its gates. During one of their missions into the wasteland, a scout team comes under attack and one of their own is captured by the mutants. The characters cope with the loss by organizing a search-and-rescue mission.
Bernstein was brought aboard the project by the pilot’s producers based on the wealth of action-adventure films he had scored throughout the 1980s. Bernstein composed music for a respectfully large fifty-plus-piece orchestra recorded and then edited by Bernstein on an early hardware Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). This unique level of control over the recorded live elements allowed Bernstein to sweeten the acoustic tracks with additional synthesizers and percussion elements.
The son of Academy Award winning film composer Elmer Bernstein (THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM, THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, GHOSTBUSTERS), Peter Bernstein grew up around recording stages, watching his father work and absorbing as much as he could. His musical education began with piano lessons. He eventually decided he wanted to be a bass player and studied bass with Carol Kaye, a member of the legendary ‘Wrecking Crew’ group of LA studio musicians. Around the same time, Peter was also studying with pioneering electronic music composer Morton Subotnick. He began his professional career as a rock n’ roll bass player at age 14 and worked in the record business as a touring bass player, band member, session player, arranger and record producer for the next 20 years. As time passed it became clear that there was going to be more opportunity for him as a composer and Peter began by working for other composers as an orchestrator and arranger. He orchestrated all or part of almost all of his father’s scores from 1974-1986, while still working in the rock n roll record business. Orchestration credits from the era include ANIMAL HOUSE, TRADING PLACES and GHOSTBUSTERS, as well as the scored portions of Michael Jackson’s THRILLER video. His credits as composer include HOT DOG… THE MOVIE, BOLERO, THE EWOK ADVENTURE, MY SCIENCE PROJECT, EWOKS: THE BATTLE FOR ENDOR, THE ALAMO: THIRTEEN DAYS TO GLORY, FIFTY/FIFTY, CANADIAN BACON and PUPPET MASTER VS DEMONIC TOYS. For television, his credits include 21 JUMP STREET, BOOKER, FALLEN ANGELS, CHICAGO HOPE, ROUGH RIDERS, MOWGLI: THE NEW ADVENTURES OF THE JUNGLE BOOK and HONEY, I SHRUNK THE KIDS: THE TV SHOW.

Dragon’s Domain Records presents THE PETER BERNSTEIN COLLECTION, VOLUME 2, featuring music composed by Peter Bernstein for two projects from his filmography, KICKS and SHE STOOD ALONE: THE TAILHOOK SCANDAL.
Released in 1985, KICKS was a television movie produced by ABC Circle Films, directed by William Wiard, written by David Levinson and starring Anthony Geary, Shelley Hack, Tom Mason, Ian Abercrombie, Susan Rutan and James Avery. KICKS tell s the story of Martin (Geary), a wealth man living life on the edge by engaging in dangerous life-threatening activities. Martin becomes involved with Maggie (Hack), a university professor who has the same proclivities. Martin and Maggie start playing games to feed their dangerous addictions, games with ever escalating stakes. During one of these games, a staged robbery, a guard is killed, shaking Maggie back to a frightening reality. When she tries to confess the crime, Martin turns on her and begins to hunt her. If she wants to survive, she’s going to have to rely on her wits.
KICKS was Bernstein’s ninth film and third TV movie score, following 1984’s THE EWOK ADVENTURE and preceding MY SCIENCE PROJECT and EWOKS: THE BATTLE OF ENDOR and others later in 1985. The score for KICKS is a blending of small orchestra and electronic elements. This score was recorded at Evergreen Studios in Burbank. Bernstein also produced an arrangement of the Paul Revere and the Raiders’ song “Kicks,” from which the film takes its name.
Airing on television in 1995, SHE STOOD ALONE: THE TAILHOOK SCANDAL was directed by Larry Shaw, written by Suzette Couture and starring Gail O’Grady, Bess Armstrong, Cameron Bancroft, Matt Clark, Hal Holbrook, James Marshall, Robert Urich and Rip Torn. SHE STOOD ALONE tells the story of Lt. Paula Coughlin (O’Grady) when she was assigned as an Admiral’s assistant at Tailhook, an annual US Navy convention held in Las Vegas. Attended predominantly by male officers who frequently get out of control like they are on leave, Coughlin is subjected to ‘The Gauntlet’, where she is man-handled and harassed relentlessly by these male officers. Refusing to be a silent victim, Coughlin fights for her rights and to bring her attackers to justice.
Bernstein was brought into this project through producer William Greenblatt, who he had worked with previously on NIGHTBREAKER and would work with again on TARGET EARTH. Bernstein’s score is very eloquent in its treatment, which featured a live group of musicians. The score is built around a noble main theme for brass, associated with Paula’s dedication to the Navy. In addition to the main theme for solo trumpet or French horn, several cues for marching snare and bass drums convey additional militaristic elements. The TAILHOOK score was recorded in Salt Lake City with a small orchestra, overdubbed in a few places by synths.

Dragon's Domain Records presents THE PETER BERNSTEIN COLLECTION, VOLUME 3 , featuring music composed by Peter Bernstein for two projects from his filmography, FIFTY/FIFTY and MIRACLES.
Released in 1992, FIFTY/FIFTY tells the story of Jake (Peter Weller) and Sam (Robert Hays), two mercenaries who run into each other on Tengara, a remote South Seas island where a revolution seems to take place every other day. Recruited by the CIA to overthrow a power-mad dictator, they are tasked to raise an army. But the choices are few and the odds against them are high, until they meet Suleta (Ramona Rahman), a beautiful freedom fighter who helps them get started.
FIFTY/FIFTY was directed by veteran actor Charles Martin Smith, who also co-stars as Martin Sprue, the CIA handler in charge of Jake and Sam. Filming was split between the island of Penang and the Central Malaysian state of Perak, according to the production notes.
FIFTY/FIFTY is an orchestral score, recorded with an orchestra of 65 musicians. Bernstein's music is based around a single primary theme, energized by propulsive brass attacks and powerful intonations of full orchestra.
Released in 1986, MIRACLES tells the story of Jean (Teri Garr) and Roger (Tom Conti), a newly divorced couple who learn the hard way that when you are meant to be together, nothing can keep you apart. As the film continues, Jean and Roger keep running into each other, literally... A robbery gone wrong results in a police chase, with the robber crashing into Jean's car and then Roger's car, which happens to be nearby. The robber kidnaps both Jean and Roger and forces them to drive, leading to an elaborate madcap chase across international borders, multiple crazy situations and ultimately to Jean and Roger's reunion.
For MIRACLES, Peter Bernstein provides an appropriately exciting musical score for this wild comedic ride. Bernstein's breathtaking score ranges from the exotic drums and synth of the opening jungle sequence to a richly arranged celebratory finale. The score was recorded at the old CTS Studios in Wembley, England, on the world's first DSP digital mixing console and performed by members of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

He eventually decided he wanted to be a bass player and studied bass with Carol Kaye, a member of the legendary 'Wrecking Crew' group of LA studio musicians. Around the same time, Peter was also studying with pioneering electronic music composer Morton Subotnick. He began his professional career as a rock n' roll bass player at age 14 and worked in the record business as a touring bass player, band member, session player, arranger and record producer for the next 20 years.
