Gnter Wand (January 7, 1912 February 14, 2002) was one of the most important conductors of the 20th century. Together with the Klner Rundfunk-Sinfonie-Orchester (WDR Sinfonieorchester) and then with the NDR Sinfonieorchester, whose principal conductor he was from 1982-1991, he produced outstanding recordings that retain their references status to this day. His Bruckner cycle with the Cologne orchestra in particular made Gnter Wands work internationally known. Wand was a keen advocate of absolute fidelity to the original, and was famous for his authentic interpretations, for the unrelenting precision of his rehearsal work and the high standards he set for recordings that were released on disc. This edition contains magnificent recordings personally authorized by Wand himself, such as Beethoven, Brahms, Bruckner and Schubert symphonies.
