After years of playing and listening to acoustic music, a group of like-minded people decided to form a band that would deal with that type of music, and named it Calido . After several years of work and composing songs, their debut album " Good Reason " was recently released.
The first comparisons came to me on their own, with Batida. I have to say right from the start that they have quite a similar expression in which they experience Caribbean rhythms acoustically, only that Calido does it better and more confidently, even if they are not perfect, there is a lot about them that is not exactly at the maximum level.
First of all, I would say that the album is rather monotonous, and that it threatens monotony after a few songs, but, fortunately, it is elevated by a few numbers that are simply hard to resist.
Various rhythms can be obtained by playing guitars, percussion and wind instruments, but somehow Calido decided to close a little too much in a certain topic, so only a few songs jump out of the standard Caribbean and South American music.
Right at the beginning of the album, the band's previous hits, " Duga ", " Prati moj ritam " and " Ti ", which each describe the band in their own way, are arranged. All three songs are very cheerful, especially "Prati moj ritam", so it is not surprising that they were well received by radio stations. The problem arises when they try to transfer the same chemistry to the rest of the album, which was a little more difficult for them to do.
" Pjesak " fades in a second after the excellent trumpet introduction due to the very monotonous rhythm, which is best reflected in the chorus (exactly the same rhythm, but the singer sings differently, a complete dissonance), " Cesta sna " is a nice folk song, the title "Dobar razlo" has a bit country touch, followed by somewhat weaker moments, especially with the songs " Rastanak " and " Blue Heart ", which are too pale, and the second mentioned doesn't even fit the English language because it sounds too plastic compared to the other songs.
Peterac Vedrana Šlipogor (vocals), Saša Wozdecky (percussion, saxophone, flute), Alan Dović (guitar and main author), Tomislav Šantek (bass) and Marija Rubčić made a solid step with their debut, so I hope that in the future they will start upward trajectory, with a safer manuscript in which only one author will stand out.
With a few excellent singles, they showed their charm and potential, but with a few songs they 'slowed down' the whole album, which is why it didn't shine as it could have.
The shortcomings, first of all in some too monotonous guitar parts in the compositions, are not insurmountable to enjoy the album because Vedrana's lovely vocals do all the work with ease. As I said earlier, "Good reason" is a better album than Batida's " Yose jedn dan ", but weaker than last year's Florian's " Ariel ".
