Wynton Existing - Sexual Death (2023) Hi Res

Sexual Death is a testament to one of the most difficult periods of my life so far. The music is a heavier direction for Wynton Existing, mirroring how heavy my life was while creating these songs. While musically and lyrically it may at times feel hopeless, there are many undertones of perseverance, yearning and an acknowledgement that dark days always do come to an end. A grand beacon of hope was meeting my now bandmate, engineer and friend Gavin Gates.

After many late nights jamming and sharing our many mutual music tastes, we began making studio recordings in Gavin's basement located in Marietta, PA. In this phase of the project we cut the songs 'Wings of the Fly', 'Being', 'Sonic Innocence', 'End of Time' & 'At Least Pretend You're Happy to See Me'. These sessions were generally kept simple and lighthearted, aside from usually starting with me venting about all the real life issues I was facing at the time. All in all, the sessions were a much needed therapeutic release at a time I was feeling completely lost.

The second and final phase of our recording sessions took place after we moved to Clarksville, TN and rented a house together where we could finish the album and start playing out. This phase of the album had more intricate songs, such as 'Tomtom Song' 'Exodus' and a whopping 11:11 length Stoner/Doom title track 'Sexual Death'. These sessions were short spontaneous bursts that included taking turns lying in an ice bath to pick up authentic shivers and moans, recording and warping cellphone audio through a guitar pickup, throwing eating utensils (that we still use) at a dirty grate and other weird odds and ends to create the sound we envisioned.

I'm relieved to say this phase of my life is finally behind me, but I'm so grateful it happened so that I could create a piece of art that I've never been more proud of.
