The Romance Of Baba Loco was birthed from an admixture of latin/eastern mysticism & western nonsense in the big filthy belly of South East London, United Kingdom. Originally the bedroom recording project of multi-instrumentalist Samuel Huxley (2021's debut release Cling Clang For Funk Monkeys), Romance is now a gang of eight multi-disciplinary artists hailing from the UK, Japan, Portugal, Spain & France, though Huxley remains the core creative force. Their bizarre multi-lingual live performances demonstrate a lust for absurdism & experimentation, transcending any usual band dynamics with each member given their chance at the altar, almost always to peculiar & hypnotic effect. Their eclecticism verging on theatre, no two Romance shows are the same. Don’t be surprised to hear Indo-African ceremonial music, post-punk, free jazz, dark lounge, avant-garde or latin folk in any one show.
With a name loosely meaning the union of wisdom & madness, Romance increasingly balance the extremes of beauty & chaos, as fanatical devotees of the Jodorowsky school, “Art should reflect the full spectrum of human experience”.
