From outer space to the abyss
Samuele Strufaldi and Tommaso Rosati’s new album “Profondo”
Out now for Auand Records
A few months after “1.15 K”, the Italian duo keeps reflecting
on life and universe
Samuele Strufaldi (piano) and Tommaso Rosati (live electronics) are back together with a new digital-only album: “Profondo”, out now on Auand Beats. The Italian duo takes on a new adventure that mirrors their previous project, released in December 2019 for the same label. While “1.15 K” was focused on outer space and the mysteries of the universe, the new album goes in the opposite direction, plumbing the abyss, «either metaphorically or literally,» to quote the authors.
«“Profondo” (“deep”, in Italian) is a suite conceived as the soundtrack of a journey – Strufaldi and Rosati explain – The music outlines the images of an immersion in the abyss, the exploration of an obscure and unknown territory, surrounded by darkness. We meet shapes that look familiar, and are suddenly intimidating and unpredictable; lights and shadows, mysterious forms that suggest something we know, in an endless dialogue between what we don’t understand and what sounds safe and comforting.»
Designed as an immersive experience, and ending with a sort of bright resurfacing, “Profondo” proceeds along several stops that «reveal precise scenarios – the creators suggest – which are actually conceived to make it easier to find your position in this parallel land.»
