Known as the "King of Beats," APHRODITE nee Gavin King, travels the world bringing his unique and memorable form of drum 'n' bass to willing crowds everywhere. A combination of the "jump up" style he was instrumental in creating, select releases from his own Urban Takeover and Aphrodite labels, plus hard-to-get-your-hands-on dubplates is what make up Gavin's explosive DJ sets. Good vibes are rampant as Gavin moves from the upfront anthems to the classics as global audiences respond accordingly. Hitting the club scene in the UK in 1988 during the "Summer of Love," Gavin made his initial mark in the dance world running a club of the same name. It was the time of acid house and Gavin was at the forefront. Numerous chance meetings with Mickey Finn brought about a partnership between the two, the birth of Urban Shakedown and the inevitable move toward the jungle sound. Over a decade later Mickey and Gavin have left an indelible mark on the music scene internationally with their Urban Takeover label whose funky fresh stormers rule dancefloors worldwide. Their infectious type of drum 'n' bass has developed its own genre dubbed "jump up" - which refers to the immediate "jump up and hit the floor running" effect their tunes have. This hip hop influenced street style has commanded remixes from established artists, the most recognizable being their "True Blue" mix of the JUNGLE BROTHERS' "Jungle Brother." Gavin established his own Aphrodite Recordings label in 1993. With over thirty releases to date, the label has made a name for itself in delivering deadly teardown beats and groovy rolling basslines that rip up floors relentlessly. His collaborations under the names ALADDIN and AMAZON have a seemingly interminable positive effect every time they are played, reinforcing the "King of Beats" tag over and over again.
