The Weimar years from 1848 to 1861 were Franz Liszt's most productive time as a composer. Here the restless concert traveler had come to rest with his partner Carolyne zu Sayn-Wittgenstein.
He wrote the famous B minor Sonata, several symphonic poems, numerous piano transcriptions, and also compositions for the organ, including the Fantasy and Fugue on the chorale "Ad nos, ad salutarem undam" from Meyerbeer's opera "Le Prophète."
Among Liszt's students in Weimar was Julius Reubke, who in his short life created a key contribution to the Romantic organ repertoire with the Great Organ Sonata "Der 94. Psalm".
