After the two successful productions Beethoven Sonatas and #Beethoven #Chamber #Music, the new album is now dedicated to Robert Schumann's Lied and chamber music. The musicians trace the authentic sound of Romanticism on historical instruments from Robert Schumann's time. Bassist Thomas Stimmel is accompanied by chamber musician and lied pianist Liese Klahn on an early 19th century fortepiano, while hornist Stephan Katte plays a horn typical of the #period with a large wide bell. The album is released with an accompanying text by the renowned musicologist Hans-Joachim Hinrichsen, who sheds new light on Robert Schumann's song compositions in the context of Romantic poetics.

Thomas Stimmel and Liese Klahn create an approach to Robert Schumann's two song cycles opus 35 and 39 that is both natural and sensual for today's listening habits. Everything uniformly polished and artificially exaggerated gives way in their interpretation to the immediacy of feeling, which allows #poetry and #music to merge. The #Duo Stimmel Klahn succeeds in evoking the feeling of life of the Romantic period, which understands man as part of #nature and in which the experience of nature becomes the symbolism of everything human. Thomas Stimmel's earthy, warm bass harmonises with the soft sound of the historic fortepiano. Contrasts and moods shine excitingly in a dazzling variety of colours.

The Adagio and Allegro op.70 for piano and horn by Robert Schumann, embedded between the two song cycles, allows for a brief pause. Stephan Katte, one of the most sought-after specialists for natural horn, and Liese Klahn, with their virtuoso playing on horn and fortepiano, create a cosmos of tonal colours in this short interlude, which are just as convincing in their yearning, dreamy inwardness as in their exuberant joie de vivre.

Thomas Stimmel, bass
Stephan Katte, horn
Liese Klahn, fortepiano
