As the winner of numerous young artist competitions, Kadar Qian has performed with the Boston Civic Symphony, the Boston Pops, Metrowest Symphony Orchestra, Lowell Philharmonic Orchestra, Quincy Symphony Orchestra, and the Rivers Symphony Orchestra.

He claimed first prize in the Chopin International Piano Competition in Hartford, Connecticut in 2010, receiving additional special prizes for the Best Bach Performance and Best Chopin Performance. He was also first prize winner of the Steinway Society of Massachusetts Piano Competition in 2009, and the Harvard Musical Association Achievement Award in 2013. He is the 2012–2013 recipient of the Chopin Foundation of the United States Scholarship Program.

Kadar Qian studied piano with A. Ramón Rivera at The Rivers School Conservatory and also studied musical analysis and conducting with Yoichi Udagawa. His former piano teacher was Ronald Kmiec.

He appeared as soloist with the Boston Landmarks Orchestra, Cape Ann Symphony, Melrose Symphony Orchestra and the Salem Philharmonic Orchestra, and has given more than a hundred performances in the United States and China, including performances at Boston Symphony Hall, Carnegie Hall, Jordan Hall, and Sanders Theatre. Qian performed on the NPR radio show, From the Top, in 2010, and he also appeared on WHDH TV in 2011 as well as WGBH radio in 2012. He made his conducting début in 2012 at the age of fourteen, and he has been appointed assistant conductor of the Melrose Symphony for the 2013–2014 season.
