Tracklist
01. Beach Sonate in A Minor, Op. 34 I. Allegro moderato
02. Beach Sonate in A Minor, Op. 34 II. Scherzo. Molto vivace
03. Beach Sonate in A Minor, Op. 34 III. Largo con dolore
04. Beach Sonate in A Minor, Op. 34 IV. Allegro con fuoco
05. Maier-Rontgen Sonate in B Minor I. Allegro
06. Maier-Rontgen Sonate in B Minor II. Andantino – Allegretto, un poco vivace
07. Maier-Rontgen Sonate in B Minor III. Allegro molto vivace
Almost as rare as women composers were works for the flute in the late Romantic period, which had taken a back seat as a solo instrument in favour of other instruments. The Swiss duo Miriam Terragni (flute) and Catherine Sarasin (piano) think that this is completely unjustified, and so they repeatedly take works for the violin (which lend themselves to this because of the range) as the basis for skilful arrangements. In the case of these two quality sonatas by Amy Beach 1867-1944) and Amanda Maier-Röntgen (1853-1894), an extremely worthwhile undertaking!
