Driver is clearly one of the few Hollywood luminaries with a reservoir of genuine musical talent. She brings considerable skills to the table with "Seastories." Reminiscent of Norah Jones crossed with the dreamy atmospherics of Chris Isaak, Driver has crafted a top quality alt-pop album. Her voice is beautiful; crystalline smooth with phrasing that's always on-target. The songwriting is equally impressive--clear, thoughtful, and groovy when it needs to be. Driver wraps her lyrics about love, life & relationships around melodies that are often moving and always pure pleasure on-the-ear. The production is virtually flawless, with Driver's radiance complimented by aces like Liz Phair and the dude from The Wallflowers.
There's not a dud in the collection. "Seastories" is like a refreshing walk through lush, green fields on the most perfect summer night imaginable. True to the title, it also conjures flavors of carefree days spent along the coastline, absorbing warmth and sunlight. I took a pure chance on this one and I'm thrilled to discover Minnie's artistry. She's the real deal. If she keeps exploring along these lines and challenging herself, she will have a long musical career and devoted fanbase.
