American singer-songwriter and film and television composer.
Born November 23, 1959, in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. His is a cousin of pianist Jeff Victor.
Formerly founded and played in the Minneapolis indie rock band Sussman Lawrence before pursuing an extensive solo career. Besides his many heartfelt songs, he is also known for composing songs about people in the audience at concerts and taking concerts outdoors when they have run their course at venues.
He was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2002 for his song "Best Kind Of Answer" which was in the CBS series "Judging Amy", for which Himmelman also composed the score. He was the composer for the FOX television show Bones. He was nominated for a Grammy Award for his children's album, "My Green Kite". USA Today has called Himmelman "one of rock's most wildly imaginative performers" for his often highly improvisational stage shows.
He has charted twice in the U.S., with "Waning Moon" in 197, which hit #41 on the rock charts; and "Woman with the Strength of 10,000 Men", which hit #18 on the alternative chart in 1991.
Himmelman is also the founder of Big Muse, a company which helps individuals and organizations unlock their creative potential.
