Peter Fletcher - Mompou: Guitar Music (2002)

Fletcher delves into Mompou's Suite Compostelana; Canciones y Danzas in fine form, with flawless technical precision and beautiful artistry. This is the first time Mompou's music has been recorded for the classical guitar, transcribed by Fletcher himself. Fletcher believes his first priority in music is his communication and range of expression, and it shows here with great feeling and charm. His playing style is lush and his command is impressive, and the music is interpreted quite magically with a lot of enthusiasm. His dedication and raw talent to the work presented speaks volumes of his love of classical music. Fletcher approaches the music on his guitar with integrity and a high degree of character and respect for the classical era. Critics have raved about his ability and feel that he has given a major contribution to classical guitar literature through his work and transcription of Mompou's music. Perhaps what shines most throughout Fletcher's performances on this record are his fantastic poetic phrasing, his genuine sense of dynamics, tonal changes, and cadences.
