Before being signed to GRP and hitting it big in pop/jazz and crossover, pianist David Benoit recorded several albums for the tiny AVI label. Bluemoon in the early '90s reissued those sets on CD including this early date. Benoit, on piano, electric piano and synthesizer, performs seven of his more obscure originals along with a faceless rhythm section that includes occasional solos from guitarist Michael Miller plus a string section. The music alternates lightweight and jazzy background music with pop tunes including one number dominated by some forgotten vocalists. Little of significance occurs and David Benoit had not yet developed his musical personality, so there is no real reason for anyone but Benoit completists to search out this lesser effort. ~ Scott Yanow
