The humble and discreet violinist Gioconda de Vito has not raised to the fame she would have deserved despite the unanimous recognition of the greatest musical figures of their times such as Wilhelm Furtwängler, Yehudi Menuhin or Edwin Fischer. Moreover, her career was shortened first by the war, then by her sudden and surprising decision to stop it in 1960, feeling she had reached her apex. She formed with the great pianist and pedagogue Tito Aprea a noted duet that left few recordings, beautiful testimonies of their mutual artistic understanding. This sonata by César Franck, coupled with Beethoven’s seventh, is a jewel of her discography.
