Robert Maximilian Helmschrott was born in 1938 in Weilheim, Upper Bavaria. He studied at the Academy of Music and Theater in Munich. He was a scholarship holder of the German Academy Villa Massimo in Rome, stayed for studies at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena and at the Cité des Arts in Paris. From 1972-2003 Helmschrott was professor, vice-president and president at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich. The multi-award-winning composer has toured the world as an organist of his own works. In the present recordings with soprano Edith Urbanczyk, who celebrates her 90th birthday this year, he is heard as pianist on some of the songs.
