Sam John Hopkins was born March 15, 1912 in Centerville, Texas. The boy who met Blind Lemon Jefferson and awakened to the blues eventually became the one and only "Lightning Man" and continued to growl dirty and low-down blues until his death on January 30, 1982. Lightnin, who laughed at the fads and vices of his era with sunglasses and a cigarette, left behind a huge number of recordings for countless labels in his 70 years of life. His blues life is truly legendary. 2012 marks the 100th anniversary of Lightnin' Hopkins' birth and the 30th anniversary of his death. P-Vine, who has introduced most of his albums in Japan, celebrates the anniversary of this great bluesman!
Even 10 years after its rediscovery, Lightnin's momentum continues unabated! Four songs from the same session are added to the 1972 production board that summarizes the December 1969 recording at the home of Chris Strukwitz, the owner of Ahhooley, and the studio recording in May of the same year, with the addition of drums by Francis Clay. With his specialty boogie, Ray Charles' "What'd I Say", the lightnin' song explodes as usual!
