Rupert Lally returns to the sonic landscape of his captivating Subexotic debut, Beyond The Night, in his follow up album: Cruise Controlled. This new nocturnal soundtrack expands on the combination of propulsive synths and late night saxophone of its predecessor by adding wordless vocals and funky bass guitar, taking the concept in a more eerie and cinematic direction.
“Needing to create a new track for a radio show focusing on Subexotic, I went back to a folder of unfinished ideas from the Beyond The Night sessions, some of which were much better than I remembered and needed relatively little in the way of overdubs to finish them off. Thinking that they might make a nice companion e.p. I sent them over to Dan (at Subexotic), who felt that they were definitely good enough to release and suggested expanding them into a full album. In doing so, I feel we‘ve come up with something that stays true to the sonic world created on Beyond The Night but also expands upon it, adding new textures and influences.“
