This release is the culmination of a three year long journey from a cellist fascinated by Bach. Marianne Dumas researched Bach’s suites, and published a new edition of the suites based on the manuscript copies of the suites and on the research she did.Marianne began her researchs in 2010. She first investigated the technique, posture and resonance of the instrument always using the Bach cello Suites as a reference. In 2014, as she was still looking for more answers in the Suites, Marianne moved to Berlin to work full time on her project. Once in Berlin, she first worked with makers of baroque instruments, had encounters with baroque specialists, made research in many libraries including the research institut for musicology at the Berlin Philhamonie and collected a lot of historical documents. She recorded the suites with the instruments she used during her research. This album, and the corresponding project, is truly groundbreaking.
