Swedish thrash/death/grindcore metal legends, Defleshed are back with their first new album in 17 years. Called ‘Grind Over Matter’, it will be released on October 28th, 2022 via Metal Blade Records.
It’s been a mighty long time since Defleshed graced our ears with new music, yet one listen to Grind Over Matter and it’s clear the band haven’t missed a single step. As brutalising and brash as ever, Defleshed are back with an ode to the extreme.
Kicking off the cacophony of noise, Bent Out of Shape is a ruthless start and a clear statement from Defleshed. They’re back and they’re not messing around. The title track going one stage further in the heaviness department as Defleshed deliver a smash-mouth and bone-crushing thrash and death track.
Darker, heavier and more intense they go with One Grave to Fit Them All, faster and meaner with Heavy Haul, and as ‘in your face’ as they can possible be with Dear Devil. Each track bringing with it a hefty and weighty amount of riffs, drum beats and growling, demonic vocals. It’s unrelentingly harsh but undeniably appealing, especially if you like your metal to be blunt.
It’s the commitment to savage speed and heaviness that makes Defleshed so appealing and to hear them rolling back the years with ease, is heart-warming. There’s no arguing with the breakneck viciousness of Staring Blind, Blood Well Spent, Unburdened by Genuis and Behind Dead Eyes.
Their straight-forward and no-nonsense approach makes the whole album so much more palatable and it’s over before it’s even had time to sink in. The final pairing of Blastbeast and Last Nail in the Coffin featuring frenetic energy, groovy thrashiness and a huge amount of furious aggression. It’s banging ending to a banging album.
Defleshed are back and seemingly stronger than ever.
