Corky Laing - Finnish Sessions (2022)

After years of letting the American rock legend, of which he is the sole surviving member of the original line-up, live on with his band Mountain, Corky Laing has decided to re-release his own record. The title "Finnish Sessions" was chosen to match the band and the recording location.
With his Scandinavian backing band, Laing, now 74, has produced a remarkable album that keeps Mountain's style alive in a modern guise. He is joined by Michael Monroe on blues harp on "Totally Wrong" and Ian Hunter on lead vocals on "Even More" and "My World".
Laing puts his stamp on the songs with his dynamic drumming and shows with his slightly hoarse voice that he is also a good singer. The Swede Conny Bloom sets accents in some songs with strong rocking guitar solos. He is supported on the guitar work by Finnish multi-instrumentalist Harry Väyrynen, who provides a full sound as second guitarist and also plays drums and the bass on some tracks, which is played on most songs by John Vihervär, who delivers along with Laing on a hard rhythm base for the drums.
Maria Hänninen contributes the vocals to the last two songs, which are declared as bonus tracks on the album, and thus ensures a varied album, also due to the different singers.
With the "Finnish Sessions" Corky Laing has managed to show that he not only lets the legacy of Mountain live on, but also has the creativity to expand it with his own songs, which definitely have the quality, in addition to the old classics also live to get presented.
