Daniel Ferruz - Miradas (2022) [Hi-Res]

After an obligatory hiatus due to the pandemic, Daniel Ferruz has renewed activity with his quartet at the UnderPool studio to record Miradas, a collection of moving compositions, that poignantly evoke different emotional states with the objective of awakening these feelings in the listener.

The album’s title refers to the different perspectives from which we can hear this music;; there is the effervescent energy of Mayo and Medina Albaida, the introspection and emotivity of Espació para la pena and Sarabanda; the evocative quality of Nana by Manuel de Falla, and the playfulness of Rondó Celta and Décima.

The music on this album highlights the different qualities that characterise this quartet, ranging from sensitivity and tenderness to expressiveness, subtlety, and sincerity. The group includes Daniel Ferruz alongside saxofonist Joan Mas, double bassist David Mengual, and drummer Adrià Claramunt.

Surprise is also a key element in this group’s music, making their interpretations always distinct so that the music on Miradas captures a unique moment in the life of Daniel Ferruz’s current group.
