Helga Plankensteiner - Jelly Roll Plays Morton (2022)

Jelly Roll Morton is alive! The original project by Helga Plankensteiner crosses the compositions of the great pioneer, self-described as the "inventor of jazz", without settling down to the classic tribute of fashion. She does it with an original three-wind quintet all of dark timbre (baritone sax, bass clarinet, tuba) which, with their rigorous melodic-rhythmic-harmonic intertwining, leave room for dragged improvisations. The quintet themed dynamic and sparkling music capable of entertaining musicians and those who listen to it. The songs follow one another at first soft and enveloping, then more and more sustained wisely intertwined in tasty rich and agile arrangements.
