An illegitimate scion of a Venetian patrician family, Giovanni Priuli worked in the circle of Giovanni Gabireli and was employed, among other things, as organist at San Marco in Venice. From the lagoon city, his career led via Graz finally to Vienna, where he worked as court conductor at the end of his life. The two volumes of his «Sacrorum Contentuum» published polychoral church music in the style of Gabrieli.
