Blackbird Hill has chosen to visually represent its music the incandescence of the night, a brazier enamelled with disturbing patterns. Determined to move away from the surrounding formalism, the Bordeaux duo exhales its acid vapours, practicing ambiguity as their trademark, in a set of variations inherited from blues and garage.
In 2020, we discovered an explosive duo called Blackbird Hill. Coming straight from Bordeaux, Maxime Conan (vocals, guitar) and Théo Jude (vocals, drums) made everyone agree with their sulphurous and oh so intense blues-rock with their first album called Razzle Dazzle. Two years later, they push the cursor a little higher with their successor entitled Embers In The Dark.
Think you've heard all about them? Well, the first title proves that Blackbird Hill still wants to fight. This is "Reset" where the duo releases the big distortions of fuzzy riffs and this dense rhythmic which gains ground little by little and leaves no respite to its audience with "Flatline" and "Beat The Retreat" more sludge than as usual.
The contrast between sumptuous vocal flights and compositions between stoner, hard-rock and blues sludge remains as striking as ever, such is the winning formula of Blackbird Hill. Much more consistent and homogeneous than their big brother, especially with "Grapevines" and the terrifying "The Colder The Better", the duo expresses a little more their expressiveness and this desire to push the volume even further. Embers In The Dark, which ends with a most unifying "Keep Up Until It Bleeds", shows a much more flamboyant Blackbird Hill than ever.
