Niteroy - Cachoeira EP (2022) Hi-Res

Having escaped from his indie rock band Born Idiot, Tiago Ribeiro went off to explore his Brazilian roots last year with a first solo EP under the name of NITEROY, which instantly put him on the radar of the best festivals in France (Les Transmusicales) and specialised media (France Inter, Radio Nova, FIP, Culturebox...). Now it's time for the confirmation of the second EP.

If "Dia De Chuva", NITEROY's previous EP, was based on the famous saudade of the country of his ancestors, this "Cachoeira" digs the groove of the discoid that irrigated the great Brazilian productions at the end of the 70s to make his pop dance. Let's be clear, disco do Brasil is not like its American or European cousins. It is more discreet, more subtle. Everything is based on an ugly tempo, with a big jazz-funk feeling, and always this joyful melancholy that emerges in each sexy arrangement. Listen to "Estrela Doente", "A Ilusão" or "Cachoeira", for example, and you'll immediately find yourself in the middle of a sweaty crowd under a starry sky, wiggling your hips lasciviously, with a wide smile eating your face.

On their side, "Universo" and "Paraty" will remind you of NITEROY's dreamy touch discovered on the first EP, with a soft and indolent voice, which seems to rock you in the shade of a pernambuco tree, in the early morning of a cuddly night. And if music has the power to concretize the mental images it evokes, we are entitled to think that NITEROY's groovy synth-pop has a bright future ahead of it.
