"A beautiful and dynamic ride between ambient electric symphony and intimate human song." - Alan Sparkhawk, Low
Aarktica is vocalist/guitarist Jon DeRosa. Jon has created a diverse catalog of music beginning in 1999, with the ambient guitar opus No Solace In Sleep (Silber). Since then DeRosa has traversed many musical styles in his primary vehicle, Aarktica and released several albums of darkly orchestral chamber pop under his own name, as well as two countrypolitan folk albums as Pale Horse and Rider.
We Will Find the Light finds DeRosa at an intersection of influences and experience, and perhaps sounding the most at ease he’s ever been, blending his affinity for ambient guitar soundscapes and understated dark folk into a cohesive work, which moves seamlessly through both melancholia and optimism. Within these songs we hear the influences of Leonard Cohen, This Mortal Coil and Nick Cave intermingling with those of minimalist composers like Ingram Marshall and ambient artists like Juliana Barwick and Steve Roach.
We Will Find the Light is comprised of a balance of both vocal and instrumental songs. DeRosa covers two vocal songs that are known in shamanic circles, one by Portugese singer Mariana Root, “Olha o Sol Que Vai Nascendo”, the other by Peruvian songwriter Artur Mena, "Sirenita Bobinsana”. This is because, for the past decade, DeRosa has worked in shamanic healing and somatic healing, disciplines which often involve exploring the shadow elements of our nature in order to heal wounds and resolve traumas. It is in this shadow place that DeRosa seems to have grown most comfortable, not necessarily indulging in the darkness, but rather observing and moving through it, into places of peace and beauty. In many ways, this album is a musical metaphor for this healing work.
This album also marks the first collaboration between DeRosa and Grammy-nominated producer Lewis Pesacov. Notable contributors also include cellist/violist Henrik Meierkord, keyboardist Charles Newman and vocalist Nicole LaLiberté.
In addition to his work in Aarktica, DeRosa is also currently the vocalist for veteran ethereal-goth band Black Tape for a Blue Girl.
We Will Find the Light is Aarktica's most ambitious and sublime album to date. It is the first physical release since 2009's In Sea and the first full-length since 2019's Mareación. It follows Aarktica's three full length albums on Darla: Matchless Years (2007), Bleeding Light (2005), ...Or You Could Just Go Through Your Whole Life and Be Happy Anyway: Bliss Out Vol. 18 (2002) and two of our all-time favorite ambient albums No Solace in Sleep (2000) and Pure Tone Audiometry (2003), which were released on Silber Records.
