Vladimir Sverdlov - Pictures at an Exhibition (Modeste Moussorgski) (2011)

Vladimir Sverdlov was born in 1976 into a family with a long tradition of producing great artists. His grandfather David Ashkenazy, a formidable composer and pianist, and his famous uncle Vladimir Ashkenazy, were highly influential in his development. Following his studies with Vladimir Krainev and Arie Vardi, Sverdlov won prizes in several international competitions and has toured extensively. Sverdlov is a controversial pianist. His playing is full of extreme contrasts and deep emotions and often has a profound impact on his audience. This recording featuring Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition and Balakirev's Islamey is not for the faint of heart. Prepare for some unexpected (sound) effects. The disc also highlights Sverdlov as composer, as his Four Pieces receive their CD premiere.
