French harpsichordist and organist Yannick Varlet has always expressed interest in German and Italian keyboard repertoire. In his liner notes, his conveys his deep admiration for the great German composer Johann Jacob Froberger. The 400th anniversary of Froberger’s birth occurs in 2016, so there is no better time for this release. Froberger was a great traveler, who saw many of his works travel outside of Germany, exposing the German style to his Italian and French contemporaries. This release presents a wide selection of Froberger’s keyboard works. Varlet performs these works partially on the harpsichord, and partly on the organ. In keeping as close to Froberger’s original intentions, Varlet uses mainly the Vienna autographed editions for interpretations, and in some cases the Berlin manuscript.
