DEEP PURPLE Drummer Releases new album with PURPENDICULAR
News Archive | English version
The band PURPENDICULAR, featuring legendary drummer Ian Paice from DEEP PURPLE, will release their third full-length album “Human Mechanic” on September 23 via Metalville. According to the label, PURPENDICULAR “create a divine root hard rock, expectedly sustained in the best traditions of PURPLE, and those who heard it, get hooked on it irrevocably.”
PURPENDICULAR were formed in October 2007 by Irish vocalist Robby Thomas Walsh and, as the name suggests, initially performed exclusively cover versions of DEEP PURPLE. Robbie played in semi-professional bands for 25 years and finally became a professional musician with PURPENDICULAR.
The success story of PURPENDICULAR is impressive. In the first year of its existence, the band rolled out a short European tour with Pace. "This is one of the best bands I work with. You will be delighted with them – these guys are so good that I have to worry only about myself," Yang said in 2012.
Jan and Robbie were introduced to each other by chance before a concert in Vienna in 2004. In the first two years of PURPENDICULAR's existence, the band performed in Austria and Germany, concentrating mainly on DEEP PURPLE material from the Steve Morse era. In 2012, the band went on tour on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the cornerstone album “Machine Head”, and Pace joined them on this tour. Also in 2012, PURPENDICULAR became the most actively performing DEEP PURPLE tribute in the world. In 2013 and 2014, the situation was repeated.
In August 2015, PURPENDICULAR released their debut album “tHis is the tHing #1”, and in 2016 went on a new tour with Pace. It turned out to be the most successful and received a lot of rave reviews in the press. Jan himself said: "I have to thank my friends from PURPENDICULAR from the bottom of my heart. This is a great group of very talented musicians who give me the opportunity to play when I'm not busy with PURPLE. We always have a great time." The band's second studio album, “Venus To Volcanus”, was released in May 2017.
Over the years, PURPENDICULAR has collaborated with other great musicians – DEEP PURPLE bassist Roger Glover, former RAINBOW keyboardists Tony Carey and Paul Morris, and bassist Neil Murray (ex-BLACK SABBATH, WHITESNAKE).
In 2020” the band began working on the third album “Human Mechanic". Robbie Walsh and Ian Pace made a number of important decisions regarding the composition of the band. Unfortunately, the album itself was postponed for almost two years due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Musically, “Human Mechanic” offers the listener the grooves and funky bass parts characteristic of Pace, but without prejudice to the hard rock sound. It's not a copy of DEEP PURPLE, but their influences, especially in the Hammond organ and guitar parts, are still in the foreground.
