Geir Bertheussen Blues Express is a hard working bluesband from the northern parts of Norway. The band mostly plays standard Chicago blues, but with a taste of soul and some funky blues tunes added to their repertoire. Last summer, the frontman, Geir Bertheussen, made a road trip through the Mississippi delta, and came up with the idea of returning the following year to make a live recording at the Shack-Up-Inn club in Clarksdale. One of his mentors, and also friend, Charlie Musselwhite, whom Geir Bertheussen Blues Express did a warm-up gig for in 2010 at the Nidaros Bluesfestival, also made a live recording at this particular club.

Geir Bertheussen is a true bluesman. He’s been doing this kind of music style for 25 years now. Like Howlin Wolf used to do, he sings with authority, feeling and bite. He’s harmonica style of playing is in the best Junior Wells tradition, but of course in his own way and interpretation. In the mid 90’s Bertheussen was among others, one of the most touring blues acts in Norway. Like in his song “E6 Highway” from his Grounded album, in which he sings about the life on the road, and what could happen.

He recorded a live album at NRK Troms in 1995 that was simply called “Live”. In 97 a new live album was recorded at Shit Happens MC Club in Finnsnes. In 2001 he’s first studio album was recorded in Trondheim, and a grand tour followed up to support the album.Grounded received a lot of great reviews.

Touring for several years at practical every club and juke joint there is to be found in Norway, this finally led to a new recording in 2011 with a new band that is now known as Blues Express.

The band features Kai-Sverre Fjellberg (Right middle) on guitars, Trond Hansen (far right) on the Bass, and Kåre “Lefty” Amundsen (far left) on drums. All the three of them have several years playing the blues in different bands for the past two decades.
